Confirm that your gutters have been cleaned via Email

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"

We have been offering our Digital Photo Confirmation in one form or another, since the late 1990's
The idea originated when we would show customers any 'problem areas' or repairs they might need.

Since most issues with gutters/downspouts aren't visible from the ground, we would climb up and take a photo.
(we still have the original Kodak, but has been replaced with HD cameras and GoPro's)

Then we started to realize that we often cleaned customers gutters during the day while they were at work.
This led to the idea that we could actually instill an added sense of security that the job was performed thoroughly.

It seems another semi-'local' company has decided to copy this idea. (oops, they forgot to change the name)
That's fine...

But we hope you'd prefer a company who forms their ideas through 40 years of customer interactions - Not "Cut & Paste"

Anyone can COPY the idea for the light bulb.

But unless you've LEARNED why you needed one in the first place
- you might not even know to turn it on.

More often than most, your gutters are filled with leaves that fall, well... in the Fall.
While that is the most common, it's not the most interesting.

Top 5: Most Common Items Found In Your Gutters (besides leaves)
5) Brick Material -  from decaying chimneys
4) Roofing Nails -  often in long rolls
3) Shingles -  typically a solid piece covering your downspout
2) Shingle Grit - Creates a dam with the consistency of wet beach sand
1) Tennis Balls (the current record is 9 at one house)

What's the oddest thing we've seen in gutters?
Frogs- very small frogs.

(not sure how they get up there, but these guys love the standing water.)

Repercussions of A Clogged Downspout

Now that we've looked at the reasons your gutter may be clogged, let's focus a little on the actual result of the clog.
If the downspout is simply restricting the drainage, you may not see overflow until we get a heavy rain.
And the rest of the time it is 'out of sight/out of mind' so to speak.

On the other hand, when you are seeing this overflow during the slightest drizzle, the downspout is completely clogged.
This is allowing 'standing water' to remain in the gutter channel. Elevated water level doesn't need much help to pour over the top.

The Path From Your Gutters To Your Basement

Once the water in your gutter reaches the point of overflow, it usually has two ways it can go. The most common way is
over the front, which is the most visible to you, from the ground.  (And just might be the reason you are reading this.)

The second way is not so obvious. Water overflows or runs from the roof behind the gutter seeking a path to the ground.
This is when things can get scary...

Gutter flashing is used to protect the house from rain water pouring down from your roof. It should overlap the rear portion of your gutter, allowing the water to enter the gutter channel. It then flows to your downspout and finally away from your house.

Unfortunately, it's quite common to have a gutter hung below the flashing. Truth be told, you may never truly know for sure if it's actually
lined up properly behind the gutter, without visual inspection.

Any sort of gap or hole may allow water to enter your home.
As gravity pulls the water downward, it could slowly deteriorate a small
portion of walls.

Your gutters may be hung (or re hung) below the flashing. This could be the reason you may have water seepage in your home.
